Paleosols

The Devil's Graveyard formation is an Eocene deposit of volcaniclastic sandstones and beautiful red and green paleosols. I am working with Amy Atwater, Dr. Chris Kirk, and Dr. Kelly Thomson of the University of Texas as well as Logan Wetherell (Central Washington University) to describe these deposits in detail. These paleosols were home to crocodiles, brontotheres, oreodonts, and most exciting of all (to my Anthropology co-authors, anyhow) small primates called omomyids. Knowing more about the paleoenvironment of this area will help establish times of uplift and increased volcanism in the region, as well as the ecology of the animals that lived there.
